Description
Miles to Mahadev is not merely a mere narrative of yatras; it represents an inward journey through the abodes of Lord Shiva in silence, surrender and grace. This book is a deeply personal chronicle of faith questioned and reaffirmed through three sacred yatras: Mani Mahesh Yatra, Adi Kailas Yatra, and Kailas Manasarovar Yatra. The book begins with the Mani Mahesh Kailas Yatra, where belief is devoid of all comfort. Devotion is severely demanding here. Amid harsh terrain, erratic weather, and flashes of fear, faith is doubted, tested, and reinforced. This yatra serves as a lesson, in teaching us thatgrace is often revealed only after endurance is tested. Then comes the Adi Kailas Yatra, through a tranquil landscape. This yatra is characterized by surrender, in contrast to the turbulence of the first yatra. In the vast solitude of the Himalayas, words disappear, and total surrender to the Lord takes place. Here, the soul understands and permits divinity to lead. The ultimate ascent is the Kailas Manasarovar Yatra, the eternal abode of Lord Shiva. This is the yatra where desire culminates as fulfilment. The sacred Manasarovar Lake, the initial sighting of Mount Kailas, and the holy Parikrama elevates this yatra to a mystifying level. What began as seeking is now transformed into a sense of belonging. Miles to Mahadev, has been written with honesty, humility, and reverence, emphasizing that these yatras pertain not to the physical distance travelled, but to the inner distance diminished. It en- courages the reader to contemplate, reflect, and heed the call of the Lord not from the mountains but from within. Some journeys change where you are. These yatras change who you are.

Some books are written with ink.
This one is written with faith and surrender.
Kailash Manasarovar Yatra – A Journey of the Soul is not simply the story of a pilgrimage. It is the story of a heart responding to a divine call. Every chapter feels like a prayer. Every page carries the vibration of “ Mahadev.”
The author does not describe Kailash as a mountain — she experiences it as Presence. The silence of Manasarovar, the golden glow of Mount Kailash, the harsh winds of Dolma Pass, the sacred waters of Gauri Kund — all become living witnesses to an intimate dialogue between devotee and Lord.
What deeply moves the reader is the raw honesty. There is no spiritual drama, only genuine surrender — headaches, breathlessness, fear, longing, uncertainty — and yet an unwavering trust that Mahadev is guiding every step. The parallel emotion of a mother undergoing surgery while the daughter walks the Parikrama adds another profound layer of devotion, sacrifice, and grace.
The most touching essence of this book is Guru bhakti. While many go to Kailash seeking Shiva, here is a seeker longing for her Guru’s darshan. That humility, that inner yearning, elevates the narrative from travel writing to sacred offering. Reading this book feels like sitting beside the icy waters of Manasarovar at night, chanting softly under a starlit sky. It leaves the heart quieter, softer, and filled with gratitude.
This is not a book to be read in haste.
It is a book to be felt.
It is a reminder that Kailash is not conquered by strength — it is revealed through grace.
A deeply moving spiritual testimony.
An offering at the feet of Mahadev.

Miles to Mahadev is a reflective and visually rich spiritual travelogue that guides the reader through three significant Himalayan pilgrimages-Mani Mahesh Kailash Yatra, Adi Kailash Yatra, and Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. Designed as a coffee table pictorial book, it combines evocative photographs with prose that flows from the heart, providing readers with both a visual and spiritual experience of these sacred yatras associated with Lord Shiva.
What distinguishes Miles to Mahadev from conventional travel writing is its deeply personal voice. The author does not approach these yatras merely as geographical expeditions or adventurous treks across high-altitude landscapes. The voyages are depicted as introspective processes of faith, commitment, and self-discovery. Every pilgrimage serves as a platform for an evolving spiritual conversation between the seeker and the divine. The mountains, lakes, and temples shown in the book are not merely portrayed as scenic wonders, but as living presences that inspire devotion and reflection.
The reader is progressively transported through three yatras. The Mani Mahesh Kailash Yatra serves as a trial of faith and perseverance, as the unpredictable terrain and harsh weather conditions test both physical endurance and inner strength. The Adi Kailash Yatra has a subdued and introspective tone, characterized by moments of silence, surrender, and spiritual introspection during the yatra in the distant Himalayas. Finally, the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, revered by devotees from various faiths, is the culmination of the author’s spiritual journey. The sacred mountain and lake serve not only as destinations. but also, as symbols of a long-cherished dream of having an encounter with the divine essence of Mahadev.
The graphical dimension of the book significantly enhances its impact. The photos depict the majestic splendour of the Himalayas. Snow clad peaks, windswept valleys, glistening lakes, and ancient temples that have silently borne witness to centuries of devotion. These visuals are not merely ornamental; they function as visual tools that encourage the reader to pause, absorb, and contemplate. Combined with a descriptive text, they create an immersive experience that transports the reader directly into the experience of the pilgrimage.
The tone of the writing is equally appealing. The prose is simple yet deep, allowing the experiences to unfold genuinely rather than with exaggerated descriptions. The author reflects a subtle humility, recognizing that the yatras were motivated not just by personal decisions but because grace, guidance, and circumstance aligned. The instances of uncertainty, fatigue, and scepticism reveal the human nature of the seeker which in turn emphasizes that spiritual journeys are seldom easy.
Miles to Mahadev is a book that is beyond mere documentation of journeys; it is a testament to the perennial human quest for understanding and connecting with the divine. The book, with its visual magnificence and relevant narration, encourages readers to look beyond the physical landscape of the Himalayas and reflect upon their own inner journeys. Miles to Mahadev provides inspiration and serene reflection for devotees of Lord Shiva and seekers of spiritual understanding.

Miles to Mahadev written by my best friend, my role model vardhini prakash ❤️..
Reading Miles to Mahadev was not just reading a book, it was a pilgrimage of heart.
From the very first page, i felt like i was no longer sitting where i was.. I was walking alongside vardhini, step by step, breath by breath towards something sacred, something beyond words -kailas. There were moments when i had to pause, not because i didn’t understand, but beacuse i felt too much.tears came unexpectedly again and again out of deep overwhelming connection.i could feel every bit of pain that vardhini went through as if it was my own.
The way the journey is described -the struggles, the surrender, the silence, the devine coincidences, it doesn’t feel like a story. It feels real, it feels lived. It feels like mahadev himself is quietly present in every page.
. There were certain incidents that shook me deeply.. moments of vulnerability, faith and unseen grace. I found myself crying as if those experiences were happening to me.That is the power of this book.it dessolves the distance between the reader and the journey. I didn’t feel like an outsider reading about kailas.i truly felt like i was there.
The cold winds, the difficult paths, the chanting, the exhaustion, the miracles everything came alive.i could almost hear the silence of the mountains, i could feel the stillness of Mount kailas, a place that is not just a destination, but a calling.A place where ego melts and only devotion remains.
Kailas is not just a mountain. It is an experience.a presence,A truth that cannot be explained, only felt. And through this book, i felt a glimpse of that truth.
What touched me the most is how the journey is not physical -it is deeply spiritual. Every step towards kailas felt like a step inward.Every hardship felt like a test of faith. And every moment of grace felt like Mahadev whispering, “i am here”.
This book made me realize that you don’t always have to go to kailas physically.. Sometimes, if the devotion is pure, kailas comes to you.
I am deeply grateful to vardhini my friend for sharing such a personal, divine experience. This book is not just meant to be read-it is meant to be felt, to be lived, and to be carried in the heart.
Even after finishing it, a part of me is still there…somewhere in those sacred mountains, in that silence, in that presence.
“Thank you, vardhini, dear friend,😘 for showing me what is kailas truly is -something that existed only in my dreams until now”
Har har Mahadev 🙏🏼🙏🏼
